Famous Canadian Presentations

Hello parents!  It was so nice to have the opportunity to meet with many of you during parent-teacher interviews.  For those parents that I was not able to meet with during interviews, I would be happy to make some time to speak with you over the phone and answer any questions you may have.  Please email me at angela.reed@ocdsb.ca or write me a note in your child's agenda.

Our next oral presentation will be linked to our Social Studies and French programs.  This presentation will be for both Grade 4's, who will be studying Canada and our Grade 5's, who are wrapping up a unit on Canadian Government and Citizenship.

Attached are the details and the rubric for our presentation.  I am posting the documents given to the students.  The outline of the assignment is in French, however, here is the outline in English for parents:

The students are being asked to prepare a presentation on a famous Canadian.  This presentation should include the following:

1)  Who?  What?  Where?  When?  Why?  How?

2)  What is this famous Canadian's contribution to our country?

3)  The presentation should be approximately 2 - 3 minutes long and should be prepared in advance.  (e.g., not read from notes)

4)  The presentation will include a bristol board with images, title and information regarding the famous Canadian OR, WITH PARENTAL PERMISSION, may be prepared as a PowerPoint presentation at home.  Class time will not be given to prepare this presentation; however, I will be available at recess for students who require assistance.

5)  Students are to write the presentation themselves in their own words.  They are not to copy the words from a book or from the internet.  I have also spoken to the students about using online translators to help translate a few words, but not the entire text.

Students have been provided with, but are not limited to, suggestions of famous Canadians on the information sheet.
